A municipality and the capital of the Bajo Aragón county, Teruel province, in the autonomous community of Aragon. It is made up of the town centre of Alcañiz together with the boroughs of Valmuel and Puigmoreno.
The main square features most of the town's prominent buildings, including the 15th-century Lonja de Alcañiz [market exchange] with its Aragonese Renaissance façade and the 1736 Santa María la Mayor church with its monumental Baroque-style façade. The town also boasts the Church of the Barefoot Carmelites and some interesting examples of stately homes from the medieval era.
