Greeting
Dear citizens,
At the moment I take office as mayor of Tortosa, I want my first words to express the honor that this responsibility entails and to commit myself to working to build a more progressive, social, and modern Tortosa.
To develop the city project, together with the rest of the municipal team members, I will work with dedication, rigor, generosity, and humility, putting people at the center of municipal policies. Because the true goal for these next four years is Tortosa and, therefore, the neighbors of the different neighborhoods and villages of the city. For this same purpose, we will reach out to all the municipal groups that are part of the council, adopting a listening and dialogue attitude that allows us to govern for all the people of Tortosa. It is about promoting a collective effort project to place the city of Tortosa where it deserves, exercising leadership and being an example in the country.
As mayor, I am clear about the objectives that should guide this mandate. As I have said, people must be at the center of the policies to be applied. Children, the elderly, and young people must feel represented and supported by the city council, just as they must recognize themselves as the true protagonists of city life.
We need a social and housing policy worked with determination and effectiveness that allows for a fairer, more social, and more supportive city. We have the duty and the need to work bravely in this area and to seek resources wherever necessary to achieve this and to make life easier for so many families in Tortosa who are having a hard time. In this regard, education and health must be the other main protagonists. We must promote community health and lead the construction of the new reference hospital for the Tierras del Ebro. And we must promote the creation of new public nurseries, the expansion of university studies in the city, and the development of a comprehensive plan for the prevention and action to eradicate bullying.
Another challenge is economic projection. We must be able to attract more industrial land and investments to generate employment. Likewise, the commerce of the center and neighborhoods must be strengthened and the tourist development of the city promoted. It is necessary to open the city to the Ebro and highlight all the historical heritage of a city with more than two thousand years of history where we have six kilometers of walls, historic neighborhoods such as the Jewish quarter of Remolins, modernist, Gothic, and Renaissance buildings, and many other elements that make us proud of our home.
And finally, we must work to make a friendlier city. Investments are not enough if they are not accompanied by maintenance. We must address the problems of parking and cleanliness in the city, as well as street safety. It is advisable to expand green areas to be a more supportive, green, and sustainable city, which will allow us to fight against climate change and make an adequate energy and ecological transition.
And we want to do all this always thinking of the neighbors of Tortosa and the five villages of the municipality, since they are the main objective of this government. And to do so by betting on a closer and more accessible City Council, with more transparency with the citizens, the fundamental basis of any public administration with its neighbors.
JORDI JORDAN FARNOS
Mayor of Tortosa
